Art Thursday in Downtown Christiansted
Last night was the second Art Thursday of 2026, and vendors and shoppers turned out for a lovely evening of browsing, sipping wine and snacking on treats, and purchasing artwork, crafts, and jewelry created by local artists.
The monthly event, which is held every third Thursday of the month from November through May, brings locals and visitors to the streets and inside the art galleries, gift shops, and jewelry stores of downtown Christiansted for the opportunity to meet the creators and shop their wares. The full experience requires some roaming, as stores along Strand Street, King Street, and Company Street participate, as well as up and down Queen Cross and through both Kings Alley and Pan Am Pavillon, on Church Street to the east and as far west as Cane Roots Gallery on King between Prince and Market Streets.
Last night’s highlights included the opening of a show of the paintings of Lucien Downes and photography of Tina Henle at the Henle Gallery/FantaSea Jewelry on King; a meet-and-great with visiting textile artist Joyce Hickok at Joyia Jewelry on Queen Cross; a display of watercolors by artist Marilyn May plus the music of Gyasi Clarke at Crucian Gold on Strand; a conversation with multimedia artist Eliana Schuster-Brown about the utility of digital tools and social media for artists at Accelerate VI Coworking Space (AVICS) on Church; and a chance to chat with abstract artist John Obafemi Jones and learn about his work on display at Cane Roots Gallery on King.
The remaining Art Thursday dates for the season are March 19, April 16, and May 21, from 5PM to 8PM, so mark your calendars now, and be sure to check the Art Thursday Facebook page for updates on specific happenings.
