Team Hanley’s Favorite Beaches

While we at Farchette & Hanley love to show off St. Croix real estate, our second favorite aspect of introducing potential buyers to the island is to share our recommendations of the must-sees and must-dos during their visit. And what’s more important on a tropical island than the beach? Spoiler alert: With 90 miles of St. Croix shoreline, you really can’t go wrong. Here, what each of our team members says are the best beaches on St. Croix.
“My favorite beach on St. Croix ever since I was a kid is called “Watch Hoe.” It’s located on the south shore near Cane Bay Garden. The easiest way to get to it is to drive down to Ha’penny Beach and park where the road meets the ocean. It’s a pretty long walk, about a mile westward down the beach, until you get to the rocky point. If you’re into body surfing, that’s the spot! The sand is perfect, and there are no other people ever! I think the walk there does a great job of keeping it always empty.” -Chris Hanley
“I love Buck Island for its variety of beauty! The underwater snorkel trail…the hike up to the top of the trail on the island for amazing views…and of course the beach itself is stunning. When our kids were young, we spent most Sundays out at Buck Island. It always holds special memories for our family!” -Kerri Hanley
“West is best!! Crystal clear, calm water — great for snorkeling! I’ve been going to La Grange Beach and Sprat Hall Beach ever since I learned to swim, when my father tossed me overboard at Buck Island at age 4 and said “swim.” (Ah, the good ole days!)” -Steph Schoyer, listings specialist
“Out west, I love Rainbow Beach for Rhythms (best place on the island for lunch) and Sandy Point National Park for floating — you stay in one spot due to the battle between the easterly winds and waves coming ashore… they cancel each other out! On the east end, Coakley Bay Beach at the Southgate Preserve is a great spot because it’s very private and you can park and unload a cooler directly on the beach!” -John Hester, buyer specialist
“As a mom, Mermaid Beach at the Buccaneer is one of my favorite spots! Beyond the beautiful beach, there are lots of activities to keep kids busy including basketball courts and giant lawn games. You can also order food and drinks from the onsite restaurant delivered right to your beach chair, making it easy to relax while the kids have fun. Cramer’s Park is also a top pick — with plenty of shade, covered pavilions, and picnic tables, it’s the perfect spot for BBQs, birthday parties, and gatherings. Easy access to the water, expansive green space, a newly added playground, and convenient restrooms make this one of the most family-friendly beaches around.” -Teresa Pape, closings specialist
“Being a former runner, I first fell in love with Ha’penny Beach for its full mile of sandy shoreline — no better place for a barefoot jog or a stroll with my dogs. For lounging, I’m a big fan of Shoys Beach, with its dramatic mangrove entrance and smattering of shady grape trees. When I’m feeling social, Sunday Funday at Cane Bay on the north shore is the place to be!” – Amy Roberts, showings specialist
