When you move to an island that is only 28 miles long, you discover the popular areas quickly. Gallows Bay is an area just east of Christiansted where many offices are located, in addition to a post office, bank and hardware store. Its an easy place to park and be within steps of your destination. Here are the restaurants the area has to offer:
If you combine a lunch menu like Panera Bread, a drink menu like Starbucks, and the atmosphere of a small town restaurant where everyone knows your name, you have The Bistro. Since opening its doors several years ago, it has been busy almost constantly. The area business crowd consistently lines up for their morning coffee, lunch and afternoon frappe.
Breakfast offerings include a variety of bagels and fresh pastries, along with breakfast sandwiches. Lunch centers around sandwiches, wraps, salads, and soups. If its offered on special, try the Ceasar or Barbecue Crispy Chicken Wrap. The Tomato Basil Bisque with a Grilled Cheese Sandwich is also a delicious combination. Don’t forget a giant cookie for dessert.
Ask anyone in the Christiansted area where they’re eating lunch or dinner on a Tuesday, and they’re likely to say Maria’s. Taco Tuesday has become a staple for many islanders, as you can’t beat the $2 tacos. But beyond Tuesday’s, Maria’s Cantina is one of the only places on St. Croix to get authentic Mexican food. It is also a sports bar and great place for a margarita on the patio.
For starters, try out the delicious salsa and guacamole with chips. The Street Tacos are a great entree choice, as are Enchiladas with Red or Green Sauce. A customer favorite is the Steak Chimichanga (for a lighter version, try the Steak Mini Chimis).
No Bones is currently located on the eastern edge of Gallows Bay, behind the new Seaside Market (formerly Schooner Bay Market). But they are in the process of relocating to a new space, nearer to the main square of Gallows Bay in the Chandler’s Wharf complex (formerly Case Place).
Don’t let the fish bones logo intimidate you if you’re not a seafood fan, there are plenty of other delicious lunch and dinner options on the menu. The Chicken Alfredo is deliciously rich and the Meat Loaf is very tasty if it’s on special.
If you’re looking for a laid-back place to watch a game, grab a beer with friends and order a fried appetizer or two, No Bones is a great spot.
