Residents living on St. Croix’s east end are elated to see the opening of Seaside Market & Deli (former location of Schooner Bay Market), just east of Christiansted. The store opened July 10 and will keep hours daily from 6 a.m. to 9 p.m.
Driving up you notice the parking lot has been renovated and is no longer ridden with potholes. You also see that nearly every inch of the rooftop is covered with solar panels. According to Owner Mike Yusuf, the panels are to ensure the high cost of electricity (for a retail operation full of coolers / freezers) is not passed along to customers.
An alternative to driving to a large grocery store mid-island, Seaside Market provides exciting offerings to east end island residents.
Wine Selection
At the forefront of the store is an expansive wine selection, with some labels you can’t find elsewhere on St. Croix. The prices are competitive and wine connoisseurs will be pleased to see each major type of wine represented, from chardonnay to cabernet.
Deli / Bakery
The deli at Seaside boasts a variety of meats, seafood, cheeses and more. A flaming rotisserie chicken oven will catch your eye (and nose) in this corner of the store. Delicious, made-to-order sandwiches are available at the deli counter.
A bakery of beautiful pastries offers everything from donuts to cupcakes, including Caribbean favorites like quesitos. A coffee bar offers some specialty drinks and flavor shots to change up your standard cup of joe.
Salad / Soup Bar
A free-standing salad bar is available for lunch and dinner. Fresh options abound, including things you may not expect like chicken and tuna salad. One to two freshly made soups are also available, such as hearty tortilla soup.
