This year’s St. Croix Food & Wine Experience week will be consolidated, going from April 7 through 10, 2017. Departing from previous years, in which there were approximately eight days of events sometimes with multiple events per day, the line-up will be streamlined as follows:
- bond @ balter (Friday, April 7 at 11:00 a.m.)
- Cork & Fork Dinners (Friday, April 7 at 5:30 p.m.) to be hosted in private homes
- Sunset Barbeque (Friday, April 7 at 6:00 p.m.) to be hosted at the Frederiksted Pier
- Wine in the Warehouse (Saturday, April 8 at 6:00 p.m.)
- Gourmet Vintner Dinner (Monday, April 10 at 6:00 p.m.)
The St. Croix Food & Wine Experience is an annual fundraiser for the St. Croix Foundation. In lieu of putting other foundation missions on-hold for months each year to plan a lengthy list of Food & Wine Experience events, fewer events allows the foundation to better focus on its basic purpose. The mission of the St. Croix Foundation is to encourage greater philanthropic activity, marshal resources, and act as a catalyst to benefit the people of the U.S. Virgin Islands. There are several primary areas of focus:
- Education & Youth
- Revitalizing the Community
- Developing the Economy
- Fiscal Services
- Public Safety
As oppose to a traditional community organization that focuses on grant writing, the St. Croix Foundation takes a more “boots on the ground” approach. One of their specific programs is youth internships, in which they’ve leveraged the St. Croix Food & Wine Experience to connect celebrity chefs with local youth interested in culinary arts.
