The St. Croix Orchid Society turns 60 this year and they are celebrating that with an orchid show at the St. George Village Botanical Gardens this weekend.
St. Croix’s tropical environment is a wonderful place to grow plants all year round and it is especially true for certain species of orchids. Our constant temperatures and humid climate is a boost for these beautiful blooms and many grow with little attention.
This one is in my yard attached to a palm tree. It gets no extra attention from me and is just getting the rain water…and I definitely do not have a green thumb.
If you haven’t been yet, today is the last day of the show and you should definitely make the effort. You’ll be rewarded with some amazing orchids or join in on one of the workshops to learn more about how to grow your own beautiful orchids. Raffle tickets will be on sale and the winner will take home an original Toni Lance watercolor…subject matter…yes, orchids.
