St. Croix turns Spooky for Halloween

When you move to St. Croix you will quickly find that any holiday or special occasion is cause for a week-long celebration.

Halloween is no exception.  Here are some of the fun events you can attend, especially if you have children or grandchildren with which to celebrate:

Fall Festival at AZ Academy

AZ Academy (located west of Christiansted near the Golden Rock intersection) hosts this fun event before Halloween to raise funds for the school.  Carnival type food like popcorn and cotton candy are available for purchase along with soft drinks and beer.  Kid’s favorites include bounce houses, pony rides and a haunted trail.  Many game booths, like a candy corn toss and rubber ducky race with water guns, are also present for kids to play for prizes.  An adults-only after party follows with a costume contest and DJ.

Trunk or Treat at Good Hope Country Day School

Good Hope Country Day School (located mid-island on route 75) is the location for this event on Halloween night.  A circle of decorated cars fills the school sporting field handing out candy to trick-or-treaters.  Pre-registration of vehicles is required with the school to park within the circle.

Galloween in Gallows Bay

The merchants in the Gallows Bay (east of Christiansted) host trick-or-treating from business to business on Halloween night.  A costume contest is traditionally hosted by Undercover Books & Gifts with themed refreshments at The Bistro.

Pumpkin Carving

Leading up to Halloween, several pumpkin carving events happen around island at venues like Cheeseburger’s in America’s Paradise.  Pumpkins are generally sold at Seaside Market, Quality Foods, Plaza Extra, and Cost-U-Less.

Trick-or-Treating

Several neighborhood associations officially organize trick-or-treating including Judith’s Fancy and Miss Bea, both located on the north shore.
