For the first time in more than ten years, St. Croix hosted the Eastern Caribbean Golf Association Championship (ECGA) this past weekend. The St. Croix team also took top honors among the nine islands in contention.

One of the leaders for Team St. Croix was Kevin Ferris, assistant general manager at host course, Carambola Golf Club. Ferris lost the tournament’s men’s division by one putt, actually tying the winner’s score at 150 over the two-day event. The rules however, deemed Adrian Norford of St. Kitts the overall men’s champion, as he had the lower score on the final day of the tournament. The St. Croix women’s team took first place net while the men’s team took third.

U.S. Virgin Islands Liutenant Governor Osbert Potter was on-hand for the opening ceremonies of the ECGA tournament and hit the first drive to kick-off the event.

Unfortunately, inclement weather related to Hurricane Matthew deterred approximately 15 golfers who planned to play in the event from surrounding islands.
