One of the best parts of St. Croix is the vibrant culinary scene, (nearly) free of the chain restaurants that overrun the cities of the U.S. mainland. A recent addition to that scene is Toast diner in Christiansted. They serve breakfast and lunch daily from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Toast is located in the Pan Am Pavilion (just off Queen Cross Street, between Strand Street and the boardwalk).
It is a hip little diner with daily specials, catering to a variety of dietary needs (gluten-free, vegan, vegetarian, et cetera). Diners will enjoy the air-conditioned seating, a rarity among Christiansted breakfast / lunch restaurants.
Breakfast offerings include staples like eggs or grits, along with creative novelties like rum cake French toast. Lunch similarly offers soups / salads / sandwiches, then throws in some zingers like Irish nachos and a BLT with pork belly. Their signature item is arepas, which are Venezuelan corn cakes with a variety of filling options. Sunday brunch specials include delicious offerings like coconut pancakes. Overall, a short list of things they make well and certainly something for every appetite. Don’t forget to order a delicious mimosa or bloody mary!
Toast Founders Todd Manley and Brant Pell were named 2015 Professional Businessmen of the Year by the St. Croix Chamber of Commerce. As the entrepreneurs behind both Toast diner and sister restaurant 40 Strand Eatery, Manley and Pell were honored by the chamber for their contributions toward the revitalization of Christiansted.
