Sunday, June 3, 2012 – “Ready, Set….GO!”
The women of St. Croix lined the streets in front of the fort in Frederiksted to kick off the 28th annual Women’s Race held by the Women’s Coalition of St. Croix. With a few hundred participants it was a fabulous turnout and all were there to help the fight against domestic violence.
Participants of all ages could run, jog, walk or skip – as long as they were having a good time! The groups of friends and family cheering on the side-lines helped make the event even more fun, loud and lively. Everyone was out supporting our St. Croix ladies.
The winner of the race was 20 year old Ninfa Barnard with a fantastic time of 11:47. Man can this girl run and her pace was about 5 minutes and 54 seconds per mile! 2nd place was 13 year old (yes 13!) Mikaela Smith with a time of 13:08 and 3rd place was 40 year old Mireille Smith with a time of 13:46.
Awards were handed out for the winners of the race, the top 3 winners per age group, and for group efforts. Come on out next year and participate; the more the merrier. We hope to see you there!
